I'm certainly not opposed to alternative power sources; someday they might not be alternative. I'm just saying that we shouldn't expect them to be any more efficient or "green" than our current power sources.

I didn't watch MSNBC last night, but I'm sure that they decided the election outcome was Bush's fault.

Something to think about, but I still want to be off the grid by whatever power necessary. Great to see you back. I'll bet you had as fun a night as I did watching the left wing Rachael, Chris and Keith as the Brown/Coakley election unfolded. The only one who seemed to really get it was, of all people, Adriana Huffington.

Well, as with most of my ideas, this one turns out to be not all that original. Here is a story about medical-care offered around the world, some with luxury accommodations: Are 'Operation Vacations' Worth the Trip?

This is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking I come to your site for. These are all creative, workable ideas. I especially like your suggestion to put med-plexes on Indian reservations (or is that Native American Reservations? PC doesn't come naturally with me.)Many people travel to India and other places now for cheaper surgery and to places like Costa Rica for quality, cheaper dental work. As long as capitalistic ideas like this bubble up from nationalization we have hope.

I can't answer your last question because I have no knowledge of the private fire departments. Perhaps I missed that because I'm about seven years younger than you or because I grew up in a rural area that had no fire department. I might add that we survived quite well without a fire department.

Our present day fire departments work by forcefully extracting dollars from our pockets. In my fire district the voters feel so dependent on their "socialized" fire department that they recently voted down a proposed increase in its tax assessment in three straight elections in about six months.

I wouldn't mind giving the old system that you described another shot.
